Evans Seeks Vietnam War Veterans to Honor
Ceremony set for Sept. 17
To honor the men and women who served in the United States Armed Forces during the Vietnam War era, Rep. John Evans (R-Erie/Crawford) is searching for veterans who live in the 5th District to honor at a ceremony to be held Sept. 17.
“Every veteran deserves to be honored and thanked for his or her invaluable contribution to our country and to our freedom, and that includes those who served our country during the Vietnam era,” Evans said. “This ceremony will be similar to ones held for veterans of World War II and Korea, and I encourage all Vietnam War era veterans or their families to contact my office to ensure that everyone is included.”
To make certain that all veterans who are interested in attending receive more detailed information about the event, Vietnam War veterans, their families or loved ones are asked to call Evans’ Edinboro office at (814) 734-2793, the Girard office at (814) 774-2892, or the Linesville office at (814) 683-5550. Those calling with information should provide the following information about the veteran: name, home address, phone number, branch of service, rank and time of service, and the number of family members who will be attending the event.
Evans and his staff are also working with local veterans organizations to ensure all local veterans from the era are honored.
Evans is also looking for names of local soldiers who may have been listed as Missing in Action (MIA) or Prisoners of War (POW) during the war so they can be honored as well. Sept. 17 marks the annual remembrance of those MIA and POWs nationwide.
The information can be dropped off at any of his district offices or the information can be mailed to: Rep. John Evans, 123 Meadville St., Edinboro, PA 16412. Veterans and their families can also download a copy of a form or complete the information online at RepEvans.com. More details about the event location and time will be announced later.
The 5th District includes Beaver, Conneaut, Cussewago, Pine, Sadsbury, Spring, Summerhill and Summit townships as well as Conneaut Lake, Conneautville, Linesville and Springboro boroughs in Crawford County. In Erie County, the 5th District includes the townships of Conneaut, Elk Creek, Girard, Springfield, Washington, and part of Fairview Township. It also includes Albion, Cranesville, Edinboro, Girard, Lake City and Platea boroughs.
